MCKINNEY, Texas – The FGCU men’s golf team will travel to the Lone Star State this week to compete in its final regular-season event of the season at the Jim West Intercollegiate hosted by Texas State on the TPC Craig Ranch course.

The action will begin with 36 holes on Monday, Apr. 7, at 9 a.m. and will conclude with 18 holes at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Apr. 8. The 54-hole tournament takes place on 233 acres of countryside, which was named by Golf Digest as one of the top 10 courses in Texas.

TPC Craig Ranch plays to a par-72 scorecard and is notable for its rolling hills and Rowlett Creek which winds its way through the lengthy 7,438-yard layout. TPC Craig Ranch will be the second “Tournament Players Club” course that the Eagles have played this year as the first came at the renowned TPC PLAYERS Stadium Course in February.

Live scoring will be posted on Golfstat.com or by following the link at the top of this release, and updates will be available on Twitter @FGCU_MGolf throughout the tournament.

In addition to Texas State and FGCU, 13 other teams will be competing this week: Virginia, SMU (individuals only), Iowa State, Central Arkansas, UL Monroe, UT Arlington, Sam Houston, Houston Baptist, Stephen F. Austin, Arkansas Little Rock, Oral Roberts, Florida Atlantic and McNeese State.

Five of the 15 teams are ranked inside the top-100 in the nation by Golfweek, led by No. 11 Virginia and capped by No. 99 FGCU (complete rankings below).

Head coach Brent Jensen will send out the following lineup as FGCU looks for a strong finish at the Jim West Intercollegiate:

1) Jake Sherwin (Fort Myers, Fla./Evangelical Christian HS)
2) Blake Biggs (Peoria, Ill./Eastern Florida State College/Peoria Notre Dame HS)
3) Mike Andre (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS)
4) Matt Cote (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor University HS)
5) Jack Hernandez (Fort Myers, Fla./Bishop Verot HS)

Last year FGCU took seventh place out of 11 teams at the same event for a three-round total of 902. The Eagles finished four strokes behind Ball State as they closed the 2012-13 regular season by competing in the same event.

FGCU is coming off a seventh-place finish at the FAU Slomin Autism Invite last weekend as the Green and Blue lowered its score all each round. Individually, sophomore Sherwin led FGCU for the second straight tournament by finishing in sole possession of 16th place with a final-round 72 to cap three consecutive steady rounds of 72-73-72 (217, +4). Junior transfer Biggs capped his event with a 74 to finish in a tie for 19th place, two shots behind Sherwin’s total for the week with a 219 (74-71-74).

The Eagles’ next competitive action following the Jim West Intercollegiate will be at the Atlantic Sun Championship Apr. 20-22.
