FGCU Falls 5-0 to Veteran UIC Squad

Naples, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer team dropped its third consecutive game of the season, losing to Illinois-Chicago by the score of 5-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles fall to 3-4-0 while the Flames improve to 3-1-2.

UIC quickly took the lead on Dan Simek's goal in the 9th minute of the game. The Flames would pad their lead by scoring three additional goals (Matt Spiess - 14:15, 16:10; Mike Giffin - 25:18) in the period to take a 4-0 lead going into halftime.

The Flames would add one goal to their lead in the second period. The lone UIC goal of the period was scored by Cesar Zambrano.

Jonathan Koshko (Tampa, Fla.) and Chris DiNapoli (Palm Harbor, Fla.) led the Eagles with one shot on goal.

Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) started the game between the pipes and recorded one save but the freshman also allowed four goals. Derek Miller (Auburndale, Fla.) saw his first field time as a collegiate athlete playing the final 45 minutes between the pipes. Miller tallied five saves and allowed one goal.

FGCU was outshot 16-5 and tied the corner kick battle 2-2.

The Eagles will look to snap their three-game losing streak Thursday night when they host their first A-Sun Conference game against Campbell. The game will be played at the FGCU Soccer Field and is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
