FORT MYERS, Fla. – Incoming FGCU men’s soccer player Jeremy Vollmer led his team, Carmel United SC, to the U.S. Soccer Academy National Championship Thursday night.

The incoming freshman, who is the reigning Indiana Player of the Year, and his Carmel United SC teammates earned their second straight title by defeating D.C. United 1-0, in a game that aired live on ESPN Classic, to win the 2009 U.S. Soccer Development Academy Finals Week U-17/18 Championship at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.

Carmel United won the inaugural Under-15/16 Championship in 2008, and returned to Finals Week this year with 10 of the players from their title-winning squad. Led by head coach Dave Costa during both championship campaigns, Carmel has never lost a single game at the Academy Finals Week, compiling a 6-0-2 record.
