Men's Soccer to Host Pair of Conference Games

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s soccer team will host a pair of conference games this weekend at the FGCU Soccer Complex. The Eagles will compete against Belmont on Friday at 7 p.m and against Lipscomb on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The Eagles split a pair of conference games last weekend, defeating North Florida 3-0 and falling to Jacksonville 4-1.
Heading into the weekend, FGCU holds a 3-5-1 record on the season with a 1-1-0 Atlantic Sun Conference record. The Eagles are currently in fourth place in the Atlantic Sun Conference standings.
Series Information with Belmont: This is the third meeting between the schools. FGCU trails 0-2-0
Last Meeting: 10/24/08 – FGCU 1, Belmont 2
Belmont got on the board first off a score by Dan Meacock in the 28th minute. He received a pass through the box area for the score.
The Eagles were able to respond and tie the game with a goal in the 81st minute by Scott Harrison (Cocoa, Fla.). Caleib Lynch (Merritt Island, Fla.) made a crossing pass into the box and Harrison scored the tally after winning a scramble among players from both teams.
In the end, Belmont responded when Will Moorad knocked in the game-winning goal in the 86th minute. Belmont dribbled the ball through the FGCU defense and left a pass for Moorad several feet outside of goal.
Belmont outshot FGCU 17-16 and won the corner kick battle, 6-3.
Janrai Gravely made seven saves in the contest for the win, while Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) made eight saves in the loss.
Series Information with Lipscomb: This is the third meeting between the schools. Series tied at 1-1-0.
Last Meeting: 10/26/08 – FGCU 2, Lipscomb 1
After a scoreless first half, Lipscomb got on the board first off a score by Andre Santos in the 46th minute. He received a pass off a cross from Miguel DaSilva for the score.
The Eagles were able to respond and tie the game with a goal in the 53rd minute when Lipscomb knocked the ball into their own goal.
The game-winning goal came in the 59th minute when an FGCU forward knocked in a header off a break away.
Lipscomb outshot FGCU 23-8 and won the corner kick battle, 8-0.
Lipscombs keepers Brent McGee and Pat Walsh combined for three saves in the contest, while Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) made six saves in goal for the Eagles.
