FORT MYERS, Fla. – After helping No. 25 FGCU post a 2-0 conference weekend with two goals and one assist over a pair of Atlantic Sun contests, sophomore Deion Jones (Tampa, Fla./Freedom HS) earned a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week, announced Monday afternoon.

The national weekly accolade from TopDrawerSoccer.com is the second of the year for Jones, who appeared on the soccer outlet’s season-opening National Team of the Week on Sept. 6. after producing five points during wins at then-No. 13 USF and VCU.

Jones’ big week began on Friday when he had a hand in each of FGCU’s goals during a 2-0 win against USC Upstate. The team’s starting right defender, Jones drilled what proved to be the game-winning goal off a free kick in the 19th minute and then assisted on the insurance goal, which also came off a free kick. Jones and the FGCU defense produced their program record third straight shutout just two days later, blanking regionally-ranked ETSU, 5-0, on Sunday. The Tampa, Fla. product was not only strong on the defensive end, but also tallied his fourth goal of the season during the team’s second-best goal output in program history.

Despite starting all 12 games on defense, Jones’ 11 points and three assists are both team-bests, while his four goals are tied for the team lead with freshman Ryan Price. Two of Jones’ four goals have been of the game-winning variety against USF and most recently USC Upstate.

Jones and the Eagles will be back in action when they close out the road portion of the 2010 schedule. The Blue and Green will begin by heading to Buies Creek, N.C. to face Campbell (4-3-4, 2-1) on Thursday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. FGCU will then head south to Georgia to square off against Mercer (6-3-1, 1-2) on Saturday, Oct. 16 in another 7 p.m. kick-off.
