FGCU Lands At No. 23 On Soccer America Poll
Tuesday, October 26, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – With a share of its first Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title already clinched, the FGCU men’s soccer team landed at No. 23 on this week’s Soccer America Top 25 poll, announced on Tuesday. The ranking marks the fourth straight week the Eagles have cracked the soccer outlet’s top 25.

On Monday, FGCU earned a No. 25 ranking from Yahoo! Sports and also received votes in the latest NSCAA top 25 poll unveiled earlier on Tuesday. FGCU received three votes in the NSCAA poll to sit in a tie for 35th overall with Penn State.

Also on Tuesday in the most up-to-date NCAA RPI rankings, FGCU came in at No. 21. According to the rankings, the Eagles have squared off against 12 opponents in the top 100 out of a possible 16, going an impressive 8-2-2. FGCU’s wins over then-No. 5 Ohio State and then-No. 13 USF earlier in the year give it a pair of wins against top 30 RPI squads, while its 6-1 mark on the road also bolsters in No. 21 ranking.

FGCU (11-3-2, 7-0) will look to clinch the outright A-Sun regular season title when it closes the season against Jacksonville (8-7-1, 3-4) on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. and UNF (3-9, 2-5) on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the FGCU Soccer Complex. FGCU needs one more point to clinch the outright A-Sun title, while Sunday’s contest will also be senior day for Matthew O’Shaughnessy (Trinity, Fla./Mitchell HS), Caleib Lynch (Merritt Island, Fla./Merritt Island HS) and Matthew Smith (Cape Canaveral, Fla./Merritt Island HS/Coastal Carolina).
