No. 19 Eagles Jump to Fourth in Final South Region Rankings
Monday, November 15, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – In the final regular season NSCAA South Region rankings, the No. 19 FGCU men’s soccer team moved into fourth place on the 10-team poll, a one spot improvement from the fifth position the Eagles held a week ago. This marks the ninth straight week and 10th time this year the team has appeared in the poll.

North Carolina remained atop the list, as it swept the top spot in all 11 weekly polls this season. South Carolina jumped into second place, as Duke dropped one position to third overall. UCF fell two places to finish fifth, while fellow A-Sun member and tournament champion ETSU took the sixth spot to close out the year.

FGCU finished the season with a 13-3-2 overall record and a perfect 9-0 Atlantic Sun conference mark, becoming just the ninth team in conference history to accomplish the feat. The Blue and Green needed just one more point in order to clinch the regular season championship outright heading into the final pair of A-Sun games. The Eagles outscored their opponents 10-0 in those final two contests, bringing the A-Sun title to Fort Myers for the first time in the brief four-year history of the program.

Over the nine-game A-Sun season, FGCU shutout seven of its opponents, outscoring them 26-2 along the way. Dating back to the 2009 season, the Eagles have gone 15-3 over their last 18 A-Sun contests and are currently riding an A-Sun home unbeaten streak of 11 games (10-0-1). FGCU is set to return 27 players, including 10 starters and six all-conference performers, next season.

Despite winning the A-Sun regular season, FGCU could not compete in the conference postseason tournament due to the NCAA reclassifying period. FGCU will be eligible for postseason play in 2011.
