FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU Department of Athletics has announced the promotion of Denise Da Silveira to Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Sales, as appointed by Director of Athletics Ken Kavanagh this week.

Da Silveira joined the department as the Director of Corporate Sponsorships and Marketing in November 2009. Since that time she has spearheaded increased average attendances across many of the 15 FGCU Division I programs, including record-breaking events for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball, swimming and diving, cross country, tennis and volleyball.

As part of wide array of responsibilities, Da Silveira manages the gameday experience, and twice this year already the volleyball program has set attendance records. On Sept. 14, FGCU played in front of 2,006 fans in Alico Arena against the then-No. 3 Penn State Nittany Lions. That record was broken last Friday as 2,234 spectators poured into Alico for a match versus Atlantic Sun Conference rival Lipscomb.

Da Silveira has also been a vital part of the external affairs team within the athletic department, working with sponsors, university student groups and officials, as well as Southwest Florida community organizations to further integrate the FGCU Athletics brand within the region and expand corporate sales and donations to SWFL’s Hometown Team. Under her revised role, she now also oversees the Athletics Ticket Office staff.

Designed to increase student engagement and school spirit, Da Silveira developed Eagle Revolution, an annual Week of Welcome event at FGCU first hosted in August of 2010. Eagle Revolution – a beginning-of-the-year pep rally – introduces freshmen and returning students to all of the FGCU athletic programs. Since its inception, the event has grown in spectacle and spectators each year, from approximately 750 in its first year to culminating with a record of more than 3,500 this past August.

About to enter her fifth year with FGCU, Da Silveira also oversees the Dirty Birds, the student fan group which has grown to an all-time high of nearly 2,400 members for the 2013-14 season. That total is already almost double the 1,200 during the 2012-13 season and up from only 750 in 2011-12. Many of those 2,400 were in attendance at Dunk City After Dark Presented by Coconut Point Ford, FGCU’s Midnight Madness event to tip off the start of basketball season last Friday, as portions of the evening were shown nationally on ESPNU.

"This is a well-earned promotion for Denise based on her significant contributions over the past four years to our external affairs unit and to the overall successes of FGCU Athletics," said Kavanagh. "In particular, she has elevated our home game experiences with the results from her tremendously successful Eagle Revolution concept, as well as her direction over our important Dirty Birds organization and as our chief liaison to the cheerleaders and pep band spirit groups. We now look forward to her adding her talents in our important Ticket Office operations as we look to maximize our home attendance, customer service and revenue capabilities."

Da Silveira began her career in sales and marketing for the Los Angeles Times after graduating from DePauw University with a BA in English Literature and a Minor in Business Administration. DaSilveira played collegiate Division III softball on the inaugural team at DePauw University. She is married to Duarte Da Silveira and they have three children: Lauren, who resides in Chicago, Sophia, a senior at DePauw University and Alec, a senior at Seacrest Country Day School.

A member of the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA), she is also active in civic organizations. Da Silveira has served since 2008 on the Bishop’s Foundation Board for the Diocese of Venice and volunteers at St. Ann Catholic Church in Naples, where she attends with her family. She has also served locally for the Cystic Fibrosis Board, NAIOP, as well as SMPS.

The FGCU Eagles are proud to be Southwest Florida’s Hometown Team and part of the A-Sun Conference with six men’s and nine women’s Division I intercollegiate programs.
