Men's Soccer Announces Several Signings

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU men’s soccer coach Bob Butehorn has announced the signing of eight student athletes to compete in FGCU’s inaugural season this fall.  Adam Glick, Michael Jeffery, Matthew O’Shaughnessy, Colin Gill, Arjun Jani, Chris DiNapoli, Ben Foerstner and Jonathan Koshko will be part of history as being part of the first recruiting class at FGCU.

“I am very excited that these young men have decided to come to FGCU to continue their playing career,” stated Butehorn.  “We are attempting to build something special at FGCU and play an exciting brand of soccer.”

Adam Glick, a goalkeeper, comes to FGCU from Leola, Pa., and Conestoga Valley High School where he set a school record for most shutouts in a single season.  Some of his accomplishments include LL league first team all-star, team captain for a premier team, and captain of Conestoga Valley.

Jeffery, a native of Fort Myers, Fla., was named 2006-07 Southwest Florida Player of the Year.  He was state team player for the past four years and was national pool player when he was a freshman at Bishop Verot High School.

“I am extremely thrilled that we were able to get one of the top players in the area to come to FGCU,” said Butehorn of Jeffery.  “His presence will only add to the excitement around the community.”

O’Shaughnessy a 6-2 185 pound defender is comes to FGCU via Mitchell High school in Tampa, Fla.  He was on the under 17 Florida Cup State Championship team. During his junior and senior years at Mitchell he was named 1st team all district and All North Suncoast as well as being the captain.  Before moving to Tampa he played for Hickory High School in Chesapeake, Va., where he was 2nd team all district as a freshman and sophomore.  

Gill out of Plant City High School in Tampa, Fla., will be a scoring threat this fall for the Eagles. Gill was captain of Plant City and played for Brandon FC the state cup champions.  

Jani is another defensive specialist out of Riverview High School in Sarasota, Fla. where he was a four year letter winner and team captain.  Jani was also a two year all-county and all-region selection as well as being part of two state runner-up teams at Riverview. He was a three year MVP at Riverview.

From Clearwater Central High School, DiNopoli was First Team All-Pinellas County. He played with O’Shaughnessy on the Clearwater Chargers premier team.  DiNopoli was named best attacker and co-MVP at Clearwater High School.

Foerstner comes to FGCU after an impressive prep career at Tampa Gaither.  He was named first team All-Hillsbourgh County after his sophomore, junior and senior seasons.  He was also a first team all-state player during his senior season as well.  He was named MVP of his U17 Super Y League team that won the North American Championship in 2006.

Koshko also comes to FGCU from Mitchell High School in Tampa, Fla., where he was named All-Conference two years in a row.  After his senior year he was named offensive MVP for Mitchell HS. He received the All Academic Sunshine Conference award his junior and senior years.

“This is a good group coming in for us,” stated Butehorn.  “I am eager to see how they come together when practice gets underway during the fall.”
