Fort Myers, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer team has been picked to finish 10th in the Atlantic Sun Conference preseason coaches poll that was released today.
This season will mark the Eagles first in the program’s history. FGCU will open the season August 31 on the road against Coastal Carolina at 7 p.m.
Campbell, who returns eight starters from last season’s team, was chosen as the preseason favorite to win the Atlantic Sun after garnering three of the 10 first place votes. The Camels also had three players (goalkeeper Aaron Johnson, defender Steven Oyuga, and midfielder Richard Jata) chosen to the preseason all-conference team. Campbell midfielder Richard Jata was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year by the coaches.
Stetson was slated to finish second, earning three first place votes, while Jacksonville is slated to finish third. The Dolphins had three players (defender Brian Cocciolo, midfielder Jonathan Jackson, and forward Anton Axelsson) chosen to the preseason all-conference team.
Belmont was picked to finish fourth followed by the 2006 A-Sun Champion Gardner-Webb at fifth, Mercer sixth, USC Upstate seventh, Lipscomb eighth and UNF ninth.
