JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University men's soccer team earned their second A-Sun victory with a 1-0 win over North Florida on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Eagles improve to 6-6-1 (2-2-1 A-Sun) while the Ospreys fall to 4-7 (3-3 A-Sun).

FGCU scored first to take an early 1-0 lead and never looked back. Anthony Forde (Odessa, Fla.) knocked in a header to record his team-leading fifth goal in the game's 24th minute off of a corner kick from Matthew Piccoli (Selden, N.Y.) Piccoli sent the corner kick to Ben Foerstner (Tampa, Fla.), received the ball back and found Forde in front of the goal.

The Eagles would take a 1-0 lead into halftime, as the Eagles outshot the Ospreys 10-3 and won the corner kick battle 6-1 in the first half.

In the second period, the Eagles defense held strong and prevented the Ospreys from scoring, although North Florida was able to get off 13 shots in the period.

FGCU starting keeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa.) recorded seven saves while registering his third career shutout. FGCU was outshot by UNF 16-15. Forde led the Eagles in shots (5), while Forde and Foerstner led FGCU in shots on goal (3).

“This was a good win for us this afternoon,” said Head Coach Bob Butehorn. “We got on the board early and held them off to win our first Sunday game of the season. I’m very proud of our guys. We need to keep it going as we head into a pair of conference matchups this weekend.”

The Eagles will be back in action Friday when they host Lipscomb at 7:00 p.m. at the FGCU Soccer Field.
