FGCU scored first to take an early 1-0 lead and never looked back. Trent Anderson (Tampa, Fla.) scored his first collegiate goal in the game's fifth minute on a scramble in front of the net, as the rebound from an initial shot by Matt O'Shaughnessy (Trinity, Fla.) was deflected by teammate Ben Foerstner (Tampa, Fla.) to set up the goal. The score would hold until halftime, as the Eagles outshot the Owls 5-3 in the first half.
In the second period, Anthony Forde (Odessa, Fla.) added his third and fourth goals of the year less than two minutes apart to finish up the game in the 88th and 90th minutes, respectively. Forde’s first goal came after Chris DiNapoli (Palm Harbor, Fla.) slipped Colin Gill (Plant City, Fla.) behind the defense on the left side of the field and Gill pulled to the front of the goal to find Forde for the finish. Forde’s second goal came after Leandro Caputo (Cape Coral, Fla.) slipped DiNapoli behind the defense and DiNapoli cut inside to the front of the goal and found Forde for the score.
