Men's Soccer to host No.11 USF in home opener

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off a 1-0 win at FIU, the FGCU men’s soccer team is set to host their first home game of the season as they try to “White Out” the No. 11 USF Bulls at the FGCU Soccer Complex Saturday at 7 p.m. The first 150 fans in attendance will receive free white t-shirts.

Series Information: This is the first meeting between the two schools.

Last time out for FGCU: The Eagles opened the 2009 season with a 1-0 victory over FIU in Miami on Tuesday night. The lone goal of the match was scored on a penalty kick by Sophomore Cristian Raudales in the 68th minute. Junior goalkeeper Matthew Smith recorded four saves in the match. The match saw three red cards and two yellow cards. The Eagles were able to tally 15 shots with eight shots on goal and four corners on the night.

Last time out for USF: USF (1-0) comes into Saturday’s match following a 2-1 win over UCF. The Bulls went into intermission up 2-0 following goals by Junior Fernando Gonzalez and Senior Zak Boggs. Junior goalkeeper Jeff Anttinella recorded eight saves in the match but allowed a second half goal, sending the game to 2-1 in the 76th minute. The Bulls tallied 15 shots with seven shots on goal and three corner kicks in the game.
