Men's Soccer Drops 4-1 Match to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The FGCU men’s soccer team fell to Jacksonville University 4-1 in their second conference match of the season on Sunday afternoon in Jacksonville, Fla. Junior Jonathan Koshko scored the lone goal for the Eagles.

Both teams move to 3-5-1 on the season with 1-1-0 records in conference play.

The Eagles got on the board first, scoring in the 22nd minute as Koshko (New Port Richey, Fla.) sent a shot into the upper left corner from 30 yards out.

The lead would be short lived, as Jacksonville would respond in the 29th minute by sending a shot into the upper right corner from 20 yards out evening the game at 1-1.

The Dolphins would take the lead in the 37th minute on a header goal off a corner kick, sending the game to 2-1.

Jacksonville would add to the lead in the 56th minute, scoring from 15 yards out by sending a shot just below the crossbar into the top of the net.

The Dolphins would score once more in the final minute of the game on a penalty kick, giving them the 4-1 victory.

The Eagles recorded 16 shots, with seven shots on goal, and three corner kicks. FGCU goal keeper Matthew Smith (Cape Canaveral, Fla.) registered four saves in the outing.

Jacksonville took 16 shots, with eight shots on goal, and four corner kicks.

The FGCU men’s soccer team will take the field again on Friday, October 9th as they host Belmont University at the FGCU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
