FORT MYERS, Fla. – With the season-opener rapidly approaching, the FGCU men’s soccer team returned to the pitch on Monday morning for the first practice of the 2010 campaign.

The Eagles began their 2010 season with an 8 a.m. training session followed by a team meal at noon and a recovery pool session at 2 p.m. The team then returned to the field at 6 p.m. for the second training session of the day, and twice-a-day leading up to the August 25th exhibition match against Tampa at the FGCU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.

Under the direction of fourth-year head coach and reigning Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year Bob Butehorn, the Blue and Green return 23 players, including five All-Conference performers, from the 2009 club that went 8-7-1 overall and 6-3 in the A-Sun, winning five of its last seven games and marking the first winning-season in program history.

“It’s great to have the team back on campus,” said Butehorn. “ I’m pleased with their overall fitness coming into preseason.”

The Blue and Green will open the 2010 schedule with a road match at USF on September 1, in Tampa, Fla. and follow it with a pair of contests at the Richmond Classic and the Marquette Invitational before landing in Fort Myers for the Embassy Suites Classic on Thursday, Sept 16, and Saturday, Sept. 18, at the FGCU Soccer Complex.

Tickets for home matches can be purchased through the FGCU Ticket Office in Alico Arena either in person or by phone at (239) 590-7145. Tickets are also available on www.FGCUathletics.com/tickets.
