FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s soccer team made headlines yet again with the release of Soccer America’s National Top 25 poll on Tuesday. The Eagles earned their first national ranking in program history, as the media outlet selected the Blue and Green No. 25 in the nation.

“This recognition is outstanding for our school, our program and all of the student-athletes that have worked so hard to get us to this level,” said reigning A-Sun Coach of the Year Bob Butehorn. “Receiving a national ranking at anytime is very exciting, but achieving it at such an early stage in our program’s history is something to be proud of.”

The Soccer America Men's Top 25 will appear in the College Reporter each Tuesday during the regular season.

The top 25 selection from Soccer America falls on the same day in which the Eagles picked up six votes in the NSCAA National Top 25 voting, and just a day after FGCU was slotted seventh in the NSCAA South Region Rankings. The six votes in the NSCAA Top 25 Poll tied FGCU with UAB, Notre Dame and Michigan for 33rd overall. The Eagles have now appeared in the South Region poll for three consecutive weeks and four times this season.

FGCU swept the opening weekend of A-Sun conference play for the first time in the brief four-year history of the program with a 2-1 overtime win over Lipscomb on Friday and a 2-0 shutout of Belmont on Sunday, both in Nashville, Tenn.

Sitting at 6-2-2, the No. 25 Eagles turn their attention to a pair of Atlantic Sun conference contests at the FGCU Soccer Complex, hosting USC Upstate on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. and regionally-ranked ETSU on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. The Blue and Green are currently riding a seven-game home unbeaten streak (6-0-1) dating back to last season, and are 5-0-1 in their last six A-Sun home contests.

Live stats, box scores and recaps for every FGCU contest are available at www.FGCUAthletics.com. Live updates of FGCU’s games can also be followed on www.twitter.com/FGCUEagles.
