FORT MYERS, Fla. – To wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule, the No. 24 FGCU men’s soccer team will host in-state rival FAU on Tuesday at the FGCU Soccer Complex, beginning at 7 p.m. This season, the Blue and Green are 4-2-2 against non-conference foes, including 2-0-1 in contests at home.

With its only losses coming at the hands of non-conference competition, FGCU comes into the contest with a 10-2-2 overall record and a perfect 6-0 mark in the A-Sun. The Eagles are currently riding a program-best eight-game winning streak, and the 10 wins are two better than the season total from all of 2009. Additionally, the Blue and Green’s current home unbeaten streak sits at nine games (8-0-1).

Through the first 14 contests, the Eagles have outscored their opponents, 23-9, with significant contribution from sophomore Deion Jones (Tampa, Fla./Freedom HS), who leads the team with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Freshman Ryan Price (Melbourne Beach, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic) has matched Jones’ goal total on the season, while juniors Cristian Raudales (Bradenton, Fla./Manatee HS) and Josey Portillo (Metairie, La./Grace King HS) sit just one back with a total of three goals apiece.

Heading the defensive efforts, senior Matthew O’Shaughnessy (Trinity, Fla./Mitchell HS) earned A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week honors as the Eagles allowed just eight shots on goal in their previous two contests, while adding another shutout to their record.

Redshirt junior keeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS) has started all 14 contests and racked up every minute (1321:46) in goal this season, while sending away a total of 56 shots on goal. Glick leads the A-Sun conference in save percentage (.862), saves and shutouts (6), while sitting second in goals against average (0.61).

FAU (3-6-2, 1-2) heads across Alligator Alley for the Tuesday contest following its 1-0 Mid-American Conference (MAC) victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday. The Owls got on the board in the first half when Martin Nesic put a shot home on an assist from Darnell King, marking the team’s first score since their Sept. 22 match against North Florida (W, 2-1). The three wins on the year are highlighted by a home defeat of Wisconsin, 2-1, in the Owls’ first victory of the 2010 campaign. Five players have recorded a goal this season as King leads the offensive with two goals and two assists, while Lukas Simons also holds a pair of goals. James McCormick has spent the majority of time in net, surrendering 11 goals and saving 27 shots sent his way.
