FORT MYERS, Fla. – For their respective efforts in the 4-0 shutout of visiting Rhode Island last Thursday evening, senior midfielder Josey Portillo (Metairie, La./Grace King HS) and redshirt senior goalkeeper Adam Glick (Leola, Pa./Conestoga Valley HS) were selected as the Atlantic Sun Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week Award winners, announced by the league office on Monday.

A preseason All-American and All-Conference selection, Portillo was instrumental in helping the Green and Blue record their first victory of the season. The senior captain finished with three points on the night, assisting what proved to be the decisive tally in the 50th minute of play. Later in the contest, the Metairie, La. native headed a free kick cross to the back of the net at the 67:08 mark for his first goal of the season, which gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage. It marks the first time Portillo has been recognized with the honor.

The reigning A-Sun Defensive Player of the Year and unanimous preseason All-Conference selection, Glick recorded his first victory of the season in the 4-0 shutout. Rhode Island put a pair of shots on goal and both were sent away by the redshirt senior keeper. Glick picked up the 27th win and 17th shutout of his career, and now ranks fourth all-time in A-Sun history in shutouts, just six away from Jeff Cassar of FIU (1992-95). The weekly award was the sixth of Glick’s career.

Playing to a scoreless first half, the Eagles scored four goals over the final 45 minutes en route to a convincing 4-0 victory over the Rams in a rain-soaked contest at the FGCU Soccer Complex. The shutout was the first of the season for the Eagles, who evened their mark at 1-1-2 on the year.

The Eagles return to the pitch this weekend as they head to Tampa, Fla. to compete at the USF Tournament. The Green and Blue will take on No. 9 UC-Irvine (6-0-0) on Friday at 5 p.m. before taking on Saint Louis (1-3-0) on Sunday beginning at 2 p.m.
