Stempnowski Moves to Regional Quarterfinals

CLINTON, S.C. - On the second day of the Wilson/ITA Southeast Region Men's Tennis Fall Championships seven of the top ten seeds were eliminated, while second seed Richard Stempnowski from Florida Gulf Coast University, third seed Sebastian Niedermayer of Eckerd College and fifth seed Sebastian Losavio of Barry University moved on to the quarterfinals. The big upset of the day was number-1 seed Thomas Hipp from Barry going down in the third round to Rollins College's Matt Umbers (7-6, 6-1). Number-4 seed Eduardo Morones from Lynn University lost to Mars Hill College's Diego Rodriguez in the second round (7-6, 4-6, 7-6). The number-six seed Miles Koprivica of Florida Southern College, the seventh seed Hector Rincon of Presbyterian College, eighth seed Regnier Azevedo of Lynn, ninth seed Paul Ratchford of PC, and tenth seed Jan Marko of Eckerd all went out in the third round. In the quarterfinals on Saturday morning, Umbers will take on Rollins' David Tafur, Niedermayer will take on Florida Southern's Gaston Verna, Rollins' Jonathan Gomez is matched up against Lynn's Nikola Vujovic, and Losavio will take on Stempnowski. In the single's consolation bracket quarterfinals, Tusculum's Roberto Robles will take on Michael Schwartz of Rollins, Barry's Manuel Lauter will be matched up against Eckerd's Sanjar Shodiev, Alberto Gutierrez of Florida Gulf Coast will take on Florida Southern's John Leavitt, and John Allen of Mars Hill will be against Miles Moriarty of Rollins.
