No. 17 Men's Tennis Rolls Past No. 40 Florida Tech

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The No. 17 Florida Gulf Coast University men’s tennis team improved to 2-1 with an 8-1 win Sunday afternoon over No. 40 Florida Tech in Division II Southeast Region men’s tennis action. Florida Tech falls to 1-7. FGCU swept the doubles action for a quick 3-0 lead. Seniors Juan Carlos Osorio (Quito, Ecuador) and Tim Offerman (Hamburg, Germany), the No. 7 doubles tandem in the Southeast, rolled to an 8-2 in at No.1 doubles. Sophomore Gavin Manders (Warwick, Bermuda) and junior Alberto Gutierrez (Bogotá, Columbia) were 9-8 winners at No. 2 doubles while freshmen Danny Lee (Naples, Fla.) and Edson Lima (Brasilia, Brazil) won 8-0 at No. 3. The third-ranked Osorio and Offerman picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively. After Gutierrez fell in two sets to the Panthers Cliff Giel, ranked No. 27 nationally in singles play, Manders, Lee and Lima pulled down the final singles wins. FGCU returns to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Puerto Rico- Mayaguez.
