No. 17 Men's Tennis cruises over Ferris State
FORT MYERS, Fla. - Ferris State snapped a four match shutout run by the #17 Eagles but Florida Gulf Coast University was still victorious by a score of 7-2.
Senior Juan Carlos Osorio, a native of Quito, Ecuador, defended his #3 national ranking in singles play by defeating Ferris State’s Brenton Bacon in three sets. Osorio improves to a flawless record of 6-0 in singles matches. Junior Alberto Gutierrez (Bogotá, Columbia) also defended his top 50 national ranking in singles by winning in two straight sets over Kyle Halberg of Ferris State. Tim Offerman (Hamburg, Germany), also a senior, teamed up with Osorio in doubles play as they lost a hard fought battle, 8-6, to Mark Hammelman and Brenton Bacon of Ferris State University who are ranked #22 in the nation as #1 seed doubles. Offerman also went down to Hammelman in 3rd seed singles play in two sets.
Also in singles play Gavin Manders, the fourth seed, won in two sets over Bryan Karazia. Manders and doubles partner Alberto Gutierrez pulled off the win as the second seed in doubles play. Freshman Danny Lee and Edson Lima defeated Corey Banghart and Bryan Karazia as the third seed doubles by a score of 8-3. Lee and Lima, the fifth and sixth seed respectively, were also successful in their singles matches.
