FGCU Men's Tennis Defeats Florida A&M

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team earned its first win of the season, defeating Florida A&M by a score of 4-3 on Monday morning at the FGCU Tennis Complex. With the win, the Eagles improve to 1-5 on the season.

In doubles action, the duo of Thibaud Aime (Figeac, France) and Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) defeated FAMU’s Michael Moore and David Jackson, 9-7, to secure the doubles point for the Eagles.

Aime and Rock also performed well in singles, with Aime winning at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-1, and Rock winning handily at No. 1, 6-1, 6-2. Mitchell Lvovsky (Dania Beach, Fla.) came up with the clinching point for FGCU in a three-set thriller, defeating Simbarashe Happy, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 at No. 6 singles.

“Obviously, we’re pleased to get our first victory,” said head coach J. Webb Horton. “But to do it in this fashion, defeating a very talented Florida A&M team in a hard-fought match, is especially satisfying.”

The Eagles will return to the courts on Thursday when they host A-Sun rival North Florida. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Admission is free to the public.
