FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team is looking to make history this weekend with a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches in Nashville against Lipscomb and Belmont. The Eagles play the Bison on Friday, April 13 at the Huston-Marsh-Griffith Tennis Center at 2 p.m. and finish against the Bruins on Saturday, April 14 at the Centennial Sportsplex at 9 a.m.

The Eagles (6-8, 3-4 A-Sun) fell to Stetson (5-2) last weekend at the FGCU Tennis Complex and need a win against Lipscomb or Belmont in addition to a loss by either team to make the A-Sun tournament. The Green and Blue have non-conference wins against Georgia Southern (5-2), Bethune-Cookman (5-2) and SIU-Edwardsville (7-0).

Sophomore Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) leads the team with a 8-6 dual match record and is 6-6 at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Lance Lvovsky (Dania,Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) has a 7-7 dual match mark, playing mostly at No. 5 singles. Freshman Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS) has a team-leading 4-3 conference record and is 6-8 in dual matches. Freshman Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS) has won two straight matches and improved to 2-0 against ranked opponents with his win against Stetson’s Maksim Levanovich, who was previously unbeaten in conference.

In doubles, Lvovsky and senior Matt Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville University) lead the team with a 6-8 dual match record, including a 3-4 mark in conference.

Lipscomb (8-10, 3-4 A-Sun) split a pair of matches against Jacksonville (4-3) and lost a tough match to UNF (4-0) in its last two matches. The Bison are led by Oliver Strecker, who has a 6-11 dual match record, including a 2-4 conference mark at No. 1 singles.

Belmont is 7-12 with a 4-3 A-Sun record after defeating Jacksonville (5-2) and dropped a close match to UNF (4-3) last weekend. The Bruins are led by Henrique Norbiato, who has a 12-7 dual match record, including a 4-3 conference mark at No. 1 singles.
