HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Riding a three-match win streak in Atlantic Sun play, the FGCU men’s tennis team will look to extend its undefeated ways this weekend as the Eagles hit the road facing Northern Kentucky on Friday in Highland Heights and Lipscomb the following day in Nashville, both at 2 p.m.

“We’re looking forward to competing against two solid A-Sun teams this weekend,” head coach C.J. Weber said. “We’ve never played at NKU before so we are excited for that, and the last time we played at Lipscomb we fell, 4-3, so Saturday will be a great opportunity to avenge that loss. These are two very important matches for us, especially with the season ending so soon.”

SO FAR THIS SEASON
With three wins and a pair of losses, FGCU (8-9 overall) is listed third in the A-Sun standings, behind ETSU and North Florida at the top. After opening conference play with 5-2 losses against UNF and ETSU, the Eagles rebounded in dominant fashion beating USC Upstate, 4-3, Kennesaw state, 5-2, and Mercer, 5-1. Leading the team in doubles play with a record of 10-4 (2-2 A-Sun) are partners Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) and Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC), while No. 62 Vives’ mark of 14-2 (5-0 A-Sun) in singles play is the best in the conference.

NORSE NOTES
After dropping each of its four pervious A-Sun matchups, NKU (4-9 overall) enters the contest against FGCU looking to claim its first conference victory of the season. Earlier this spring the Norse were shutout, 7-0, by Kennesaw State and ETSU, and suffered 5-2 defeats to Mercer and USC Upstate. Meeting for just the second time, FGCU leads the all-time series, 1-0, against NKU, having won their first head-to-head matchup in 2013 with a powerful 7-0 shutout.

Friday’s match against NKU will be shown live on A-Sun.TV, and will be available to watch free of charge here.

BISONS’ BACKGROUND
With an overall mark of 2-10 (1-3 A-Sun), Lipscomb welcomes FGCU looking to claim its first conference win in front of its home fans. The Bisons began conference play beating Mercer, 4-3, but have dropped their last three, falling 6-1 to Kennesaw State and Upstate, and 6-0 to ETSU. With the all-time series between the two an even 3-3, the Eagles enter this year’s matchup with the Bisons looking to tilt the score in their favor for the first time since 2010. In their first two meetings, FGCU came away victorious, but Lipscomb answered winning the next three with close scores of 4-3 in each. In last year’s dual match, the Eagles flew to a dominant 6-1 win.

Upon their return, the Green and Blue will end the regular season hosting Stetson for Senior Day on April 12 at 1 p.m. For complete coverage of FGCU men’s tennis over the weekend, follow us on Twitter @FGCU_MTEN and visit www.FGCUAthletics.com where full recaps and results will be available at the end of each day.
