Backed by powerful doubles performances and dominant singles play, the No. 3 FGCU men’s tennis team cruised to a 4-0 victory over No. 6 Mercer for its second-straight Atlantic Sun Championship quarterfinal win Thursday morning at the University of North Florida Tennis Complex.

Just one day before the FGCU men’s tennis team makes its debut as a program-best No. 3 seed in this weekend’s Atlantic Sun Championship, juniors Jordi Vives and Tianyu Bao earned a quartet of postseason honors with Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) named Player of the Year, to the All-Conference First Team and the Academic All-Conference squad, and Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS) to the All-Conference First Team.

Making its third-straight appearance at the Atlantic Sun Championships, the third-seeded FGCU men’s tennis team will look to claim its first A-Sun title beginning with a quarterfinal matchup against sixth-seeded Mercer on Thursday morning at 11:30 at the University of North Florida Tennis Complex.

With just two days remaining before the Atlantic Sun Championship, FGCU men’s tennis junior Jordi Vives continues to represent the Eagles in a national spotlight through his placement at No. 60 in the seventh installment of Intercollegiate Tennis Association rankings, announced by ITA officials on Tuesday afternoon.

Earning a program-record six Atlantic Sun Conference wins while securing the No. 3 seed in next weekend’s A-Sun Championship, the FGCU men’s tennis team claimed its first-ever victory over Stetson, in dramatic fashion, beating the Hatters, 4-3, on Senior Day in The Nest. Posting the match-clinching point for the Green and Blue was Tianyu Bao finding victory in a strenuous three-set match in the No. 2 position.
