Stempnowski wins 2nd Straight Southeast Region Championship

CLINTON, S.C. – The final day of the Wilson/ITA Southeast Regional Men’s Tennis tournament was just like the first three as one high seed advanced to the national tournament, while another fell in the championship match. In the singles main draw final, Florida Gulf Coast University’s Richard Stempnowski rolled over Rollins College’s Matt Umbers 6-1, 6-0. It was the second straight region title for the Eagles senior. In the doubles main draw, sixth seed Kshitij Dwivedi and Paul Ratchford from Presbyterian College upset the second seed Regneir Azevedo and Eduardo Morones from Lynn University 8-3. In the singles consolation final, Florida Gulf Coast’s Alberto Gutierrez defeated Barry University’s Manuel Lauter 6-1, 6-2. The singles and doubles champions from this weekend's tournament advance to the Oct. 14-17 ITA National Small College Championships at Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers.
