#12 FGCU Men Improve to 16-3

LAKELAND, Fla. – The 12th ranked Florida Gulf Coast University men’s tennis halted Florida Southern College’s five-match win streak with a 6-3 win Friday afternoon. The Eagles captured four singles matches and two doubles matches to win for the eighth time in nine matches to improve to 16-3 on the season. Florida Southern falls to 11-7. The top doubles team of Richard Stempnowski and Jose Pastrello, the most prolific doubles team in FGCU history, improved to 17-2 in dual match play with a tight 9-8 (0) win at No. 1 doubles. The third doubles team of Juan Carlos Osorio and junior Tim Offerman improved to 14-2 with an 8-4 win over John Leavitt and Gaston Verna. Florida Southern captured the second doubles match as Josh Berman and Jason Gorewicz edged the FGCU tandem of senior Seth Fogelman and sophomore Alberto Gutierrez 9-8(3). Osorio and Fogelman extended their winning streaks in singles play as the Eagles took four of the six singles matches over the Moccasins. Osorio remained unbeaten at 16-0 at the No. 3 singles position with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Milos Koprivica. Fogelman won his 14th straight match at No. 5 singles with a 7-5, 6-3 win over (FSC) 6-1, 6-4. Stempnowski, ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division II singles, won his school-record 17th dual match of the season with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 win over No. 35 Gaston Verna at No. 1 singles. Gutierrez registered the Eagles other singles win with a win at the No. 4 position. FGCU hosts Florida Tech on Sunday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Singles competition 1.
