FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU senior Juan Carlos Osorio defeated top-seeded Vivek Subramanian of the University of Miami 6-4, 6-0 on Sunday to win the singles title of the inaugural Florida Collegiate Tennis One-on-One Doubles championships at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The second-seeded Osorio came from behind to beat sixth-seeded Milos Koprivica in Sunday morning’s semifinal match, 4-6, 6-4 and 10-6 in the tiebreaker for the singles crown. But Osorio stumbled in Sunday’s double semifinals. Osorio fell to Mislav Hizak of Embry-Riddle in the one semifinal before Subramanian knocked off Hizak, 8-6, in the championship final. One One-on-One doubles is a half-court, serve and volley competition. Players alternate points from the deuce court to the ad court. The eight-game set requires all points to be played crosscourt with the alley included, and players must serve and volley on both the first and second serves. Players from the University of Central Florida, University of Miami, Florida Southern, Florida Tech, and Embry-Riddle competed with host FGCU in the event. FGCU will be hosting the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional from Sept. 22-25.
