Men's Tennis Edges Florida Southern

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior Juan Carlos Osorio won both of his matches Saturday afternoon to lead the No. 9 Florida Gulf Coast University men’s tennis team to a 5-4 victory over No. 13 Florida Southern College in the Eagles’ final regular season home match at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The two teams split the six singles matches, but FGCU earned the team victory by winning two of the three doubles encounters. FGCU is now 16-4 while the Mocs’ fall to 12-9 in dual match play. Osorio (Quito, Ecuador) teamed with senior Tim Offerman (Hamburg, Germany) to capture the No. 1 doubles match. The tandem, ranked No. 10 in Division II doubles, improved to 14-3 on the year. Freshmen Danny Lee (Naples, Fla.) and Edson Lima (Brasilia, Brazil) improved to 15-4 with a win at No. 3 doubles. FSC picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as Milos Koprivica and Issac Galindo upended junior Alberto Gutierrez (Bogotá, Columbia) and sophomore Gavin Manders (Warwick, Bermuda). Singles winners for FGCU included second-ranked Osorio, a two-set winner over No. 16 Koprivica at No.1, Lee at No. 5 and Lima at No. 6. The Mocs got singles wins from No. 28 Michael Knoedler over Offerman at No. 2, Adam Flintoff over Gutierrez at No. 3, and Galindo over Manders at No. 4. FGCU closes out the regular season with a match at No. 18 Eckerd College on April 17 in St. Petersburg, Fla. The Eagles will face a ranked opponent for the seventh time in the final eight matches.
