Monday, February 22, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team lost to the Owls of Florida Atlantic at Patch Reef Park on Sunday by a score of 6-1. Thibaud Aime was the lone winner for the Eagles, who drop to 0-5 on the season. Up next for the Blue and Green is a home contest against Florida A&M on Feb. 27.

Aime (Figeac, France) teamed up with Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) for an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles, but FAU won the other two matches to claim the doubles point.

In singles play, Aime was the lone winner for FGCU, defeating Marc Abdelnour by virtue of Abdelnour’s retirement. Rock won the first set at No. 4 singles, but lost the second set and a one-game tiebreak against Joshua Scholl. The other four singles matches were straight-set victories for the Owls, who improve to 4-3 on the season.

The Eagles land back at home on Saturday, Feb. 27, when they host the Florida A&M Rattlers. The match is set to begin at 2 p.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
