Mercer Slips Past Eagles, 4-3

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU tennis team fell to the Mercer Bears, 4-3, on Thursday afternoon at the FGCU Tennis Complex. With the loss, the Eagles drop to 4-12 overall, 3-5 in the A-Sun, while Mercer improves to 7-7, 1-4 in conference. This marks the fourth consecutive dual match for the Eagles that has been decided by just one point.

The Bears won two of the three doubles matches to claim the doubles point, taking a 1-0 lead going into singles play.

In singles action, the Blue and Green split the six matches, winning on courts one, three, and four. Thibaud Aime (Figeac, France) evened his personal record at 8-8 (4-4 in the A-Sun) with a 6-3, 6-1 defeat of Evandro Rosindo on court one. Sebastian Leitz (Nimes, France) won on court three, 6-4, 6-4, and Matt Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was victorious on court four, 6-2, 6-3.

The Eagles will return to the courts on Monday (Mon. 29) when they host No. 34 Wisconsin. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.
