Eagles Conclude Season with Loss at No. 52 USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The FGCU men’s tennis team wrapped up the 2010 season with a 7-0 loss at No. 52 USC Upstate on Saturday morning in Spartanburg, S.C. The Eagles finish the season with a 4-14 overall record, 3-7 in Atlantic Sun matches. The Spartans remain atop the A-Sun standings, holding a 17-5 overall record, 9-0 in conference.

USC Upstate took the doubles point by winning all three matches. The Spartans continued to play well in singles, winning all six matches. Carlo Checchia (Brasilia, Brazil) battled back to force a third set tiebreak after losing the first set on court two, but eventually lost, 6-2, 4-6, 10-6. Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also forced a third set on court four, but he fell to Jack Roux, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
