MACON, Ga. – A point of emphasis for the FGCU men’s tennis team this season was winning the doubles point. Thibaud Aime (Figeac, France) and Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) did their part in trying to help the Eagles do that every match, winning 12 of 17 doubles matches this season. For their efforts, the Aime and Rock were named Second Team All-Atlantic Sun as a doubles team, the conference announced Wednesday afternoon.
Aime and Rock played at the number one doubles position in every dual match for the Eagles this season, finishing the year with a 12-5 overall record. In Atlantic Sun competition, the duo registered a 7-3 mark.
Both players contributed in singles play as well, with Aime leading the team in overall singles victories (8) and Rock leading the Eagles in A-Sun singles victories (5). Aime played all 18 matches at the number one position, while Rock was primarily at position number four. Aime also picked up one of the biggest singles victories of the season for FGCU, defeating Jamal Adderley of USF on January 19. At the time, Adderley was the 64th-ranked singles player in the nation.
A-Sun Player of the Year honors went to ETSU’s Sander Gille, while UNF’s Daniel Sotomarino earned A-Sun Freshman of the Year accolades. The A-Sun Coach of the Year award went to USC Upstate’s Alessandro De Marzo.
