FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team is set to take the road for the USTA/ITA Regional Championships hosted by the University of Florida. This year’s Southeast Region event will take place from Oct. 21-25 in Gainesville, Fla.
The USTA/ITA Regional Championships feature some of the top men's and women's players competing in each of the ITA's regions across the country over the course of the next two months. Over 8,000 student-athletes from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, Junior and Community Colleges compete in the USTA/ITA Regional Championships held at 85 different college campuses across the country.
The Eagles will have four singles competitors and two doubles teams travelling to the event. In singles action on Thursday, junior Matthew Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Jacksonville University) will square off with UNF’s Hleb Maslau, freshman Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) faces Hans Adrian Riseng of Stetson and senior Carlo Cheechia (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Ceteb/Coastal Carolina University) rounds out the 2 p.m. group when he faces USF’s Federico Sabogal. Junior transfer Jackson Moore (Brandenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State) wraps up day one singles with a 3:30 p.m. start with Jacksonville’s Pitt Von Oertzen.
On Friday, the doubles team of Checchia and Rock will serve it up with the FAU pair of Madon and Webb, followed by the tandem of Moore and Tsamas against Jacksonville’s Shalmi and Von Oertzen.
