ATHENS, Ga. – Led by senior Matthew Rock’s (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville University) singles victory in the consolation round, the FGCU men’s tennis team completed Day Two at the USTA/ITA Regional Championships hosted by the University of Georgia on Saturday night.

Rock was victorious in a three-set thriller, 4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6), against Atlantic Sun foe Njal Stene from Stetson. Rock was able to win the second-set, 6-4, before outlasting his opponent in the super tiebreaker, 10-6.

Sophomore Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) lost in straight sets to A-Sun rival Norbert Nemcsek from North Florida, 6-2, 6-4.

“Matt had a great win and he had to execute on some of the exact things we’ve been talking about with his game at the end of the match,” said head coach C.J. Weber. “I am really proud of him and we both learned a lot this weekend.”

The Green and Blue finished the 2011 fall campaign and will begin preparations for the 2012 spring dual-match season.
