FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU men’s tennis team picked up its second straight win after defeating Bethune-Cookman, 5-2 on Sunday at the FGCU Tennis Complex. Sophomore Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) finished the weekend undefeated in singles and doubles.
The Eagles improve their record to 2-2 on the season after winning four of the six singles matches against the Wildcats.
“I’m really happy for the guys this weekend,” said first-year head coach C.J. Weber. “We still have a lot of hard work ahead of us but it’s going to be a lot of fun this season. I am also proud for Beiler for getting his first dual match win. The kid wants it and that’s why he’s going to have a great freshman season.”
FGCU quickly got off to a fast start in singles as Tsamas won in straight sets against Juan Varon, who was previously undefeated, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 3 singles. Tsamas has won three straight matches to improve his dual match record to 3-1.
Freshman Michael Beiler (Palm Harbor, Fla./Dunedin HS) earned his first collegiate dual match win against Mortiz Pronath, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 5 singles.
“I felt like I was playing at a high level throughout the match today and that was the difference,” said Beiler. “I have to keep working on staying positive and the results will be there.”

Junior Collin Brown (Victoria, Texas/Memorial HS) and Tsamas fell behind 5-2 against Gilbert Kibet and Vitor Belucci, at No. 3 doubles. Brown and Tsamas rallied to win six straight games to win, 8-5, to even the doubles matches at 1-1. In the final doubles match, Rock and Lvovsky took care of Misanovic and Jackson, 8-3, at No. 1 doubles to clinch the point for FGCU.
