FGCU Ready for Atlantic Sun Duals Against No. 56 UNF and Jacksonville

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Coming off a tough 0-2 weekend on the road, the FGCU men’s tennis team is looking to bounce back against Atlantic Sun foe No. 56 UNF on Thursday, Mar. 29 at 7:00 p.m. in the second night match at the FGCU Tennis Complex. The Eagles finish the weekend against A-Sun member Jacksonville on Saturday, March 31 at 10 a.m. at the FGCU Tennis Complex.

The Eagles (5-6, 2-2 A-Sun) fell to USC Upstate (6-1) and ETSU (7-0) last weekend in their first conference road matches of the season. The Green and Blue have non-conference wins against Georgia Southern (5-2), Bethune-Cookman (5-2) and SIU-Edwardsville (7-0).

“We have an incredible challenge ahead of us this Thursday evening against UNF,” said head coach C.J. Weber. “It’s a great opportunity for us to size ourselves up against one of the top teams in the conference in front of what will hopefully be another big crowd.”

Sophomore Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) leads the team with a 7-3 dual match record and is 5-3 at No. 3 singles. Sophomore Lance Lvovsky (Dania,Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) has a 6-4 dual match mark, playing mostly at No. 5 singles. Junior Jackson Moore (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State) is 6-3 in dual matches.

In doubles, Lvovsky and Matt Rock (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Fort Lauderdale HS/Jacksonville University) lead the team with a 6-5 dual match record, including a 3-1 mark in conference.

No. 56 UNF enters the match with a 12-5, 2-1 A-Sun record after defeating Jacksonville (5-2) and Elon (7-0) in its last two matches. The Ospreys only loss in conference was against ETSU in a tough 4-3 match back on Mar. 17. UNF is led by Moritz Buerchner, who has an 11-4 record at No. 1 singles.

Jacksonville (3-12, 1-2 A-Sun) lost to Nicholls State (4-3) and UNF (5-2) in its last two matches. The Dolphins defeated USC Upstate (5-2) back on Mar. 17 for their only A-Sun win to date. Fernando Bano Lopez leads Jacksonville with a 5-7 record, including a 3-4 mark at No. 2 singles.
