ATLANTA, Ga. – After being defeated by Mercer 4-3 less than 24 hours ago, the FGCU men’s tennis team bounces back, with an impressive 6-1 victory over Kennesaw State Saturday night in Atlanta, Ga.

The Eagles improve to 8-7 on the season and 3-1 in A-Sun conference action. The Owls fall to 3-11 and 0-3 in conference play.

“I’m really proud of this team bouncing back from yesterday’s loss! We could have easily let that loss affect us another day, but the guys stayed disciplined in our goals and rebounded immediately,” said head coach C.J. Weber. “We played with great energy and grit today.”

In doubles, sophomore Jordi Vives (Barcelona, Spain/IES Ferran Tallada/USC) and junior Dean Tsamas (Lexington, Ky./Henry Clay HS) defeated  Menhofer and Theodor, 9-8 (1) in a thrilling doubles match in the No. 1 spot. In the No. 2 spot, the duo of sophomore Tianyu Bao (Tianjin, China/Bayshore HS-FL) and freshman Dylan Gunning (Baca Raton, Fla./Olympic Heights HS) helped win the doubles point for FGCU when they defeated the team of Yorsh and Kubin, 8-5. The Eagles dropped the No. 3 doubles, 8-5, to the team of Pena and Ozdemir.

In singles, the Eagles got swift victories Vives and Tsmas who both won in straight sets at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Bao, senior Jackson Moore (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS/Georgia State) and junior Lance Lvovsky (Dania, Fla./Broward Virtual School/Jacksonville) all picked up victories for FGCU needed three sets to do so. Bao won the third set easily, 6-2 after dropping the second set 5-7. Moore and Lvovsky both needed three sets to defeat their respective opponents after they both dropped the first set.
