FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Athletics has named men's and women's soccer players
Steven Oliveri and
Tabby Tindell as recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month Award for the month of August.
Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communications Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles as the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athlete of the Month. Those selected for the honor will have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success.
Tindell is a pre-exercise science major and has logged a 3.68 GPA so far during her time at FGCU. She was the Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year a season ago and has been chosen as the Preseason A-Sun Player of the Year while on the field she has already scored three goals including the game-winning goal in each of the Eagles' two wins this season. In recognition of her efforts in the season opening, two-goal performance against Arizona, Tindell was named the A-Sun Player of the Week for the fourth time in her career as well as being chosen as an honorable mention to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week which recognizes the top performances of players nationwide.
Oliveri is a junior midfielder with a 3.62 GPA currently majoring in health science with plans to attend physical therapy school after graduation. He was selected to the A-Sun All-Conference Second Team a season ago and has been chosen to the Preseason All-Conference Team this year. With Oliveri on the field for the full 90 minutes, the Eagles defeated USF in its season-opener by a score of 2-0. Last season he proved to be perhaps the most dependable midfielder on the roster by finishing the season with 1,469 minutes, the most among all midfielders on the team and the second-most minutes played on the team. He played at least 90 minutes in 14 of the 16 matches he appeared in in 2013.
