Clark, Tindell Earn Northwestern Mutual Academic Honor

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU Athletics has named men's cross country runner Troy Clark and women's soccer player Tabby Tindell as recipients of the Northwestern Mutual Academic Student-Athletes of the Month Award for October.

Each month during the school year, the FGCU Athletics Communication Office and Athletic Academic staff will choose a pair of Eagles as the Northwestern Mutual Student-Athlete of the Month. Those selected for the honor will have exhibited a combination of superior athletic and overall academic success.

Clark (Mount Dora, Fla./Mt. Dora Bible HS) is an athletic training major with a 3.81 cumulative GPA and earned Dean's List recognition in each of his first two semesters on FGCU's campus. He was also named a member of the FGCU Athletics Department Honor Roll for his academic achievements during both the fall 2014 and spring 2015 semesters.

The sophomore runner recently capped off one of the program's most impressive A-Sun Championship performances as the team finished in a program-best third place at the conference meet. Individually, Clark crossed the finish line 10th overall in a personal-best 8K time of 25:32.31, becoming just the third male runner in FGCU history to finish inside the top-10, and earned Second Team All-Conference honors for his effort. He paced the Eagles in each of the team's final two meets and posted two of the Green and Blue's top-five times this season. Along with his A-Sun Championship performance, Clark also ran a pace of 25:50.60 and finished in a season-best second place at the USF Invitational.

In his two years on the Southwest Florida campus, Clark has built a strong resume with five top-10 finishes. He paced the Eagles during two consecutive A-Sun Championships, earning Second Team All-Conference honors on both occasions, and was also named a member of the A-Sun All-Freshman Team in 2014. The Mount Dora native currently holds the seventh- and eighth-fastest 8K times to go along with the seventh-fastest 10K time in program history. Additionally, he turned in three of the top-five 8K times for freshman runners a season ago and the top-two times for sophomore runners in 2015.

Tindell (Ocala, Fla./Trinity Catholic HS) is a health science major with a 3.55 cumulative GPA. She has received Dean's List recognition on three occasions and has been named a member of the FGCU Athletics Department Honor Roll every semester since arriving in Fort Myers prior to the fall 2013 semester. Last week, Tindell was not only named to the A-Sun All-Academic Team for the second-consecutive season, but also earned the A-Sun Player of the Year nod for the second-straight season, becoming just the third player in conference history to accomplish the feat.

The junior currently leads the conference and ranks fifth nationally with 38 points through 16 games played this season. She has scored 15 goals for the sixth-best mark in the nation and adds eight assists with six game-winning goals to lead the conference in all offensive categories. For her nationally-recognized efforts, she was one of two A-Sun players unanimously voted to the All-Conference First Team, joining the list for the third time in as many seasons.

Tindell broke the FGCU program record for career points earlier this season and currently tops the list by nearly 40 at 120 total career points. The impressive point total also breaks into the top-10 among all-time A-Sun players through the league's 22-year history. Through just three seasons, Tindell has scored 50 goals and now ranks sixth all-time among the A-Sun's record book. She also tops the FGCU program record by 22 goals. The forward was named the 2013 A-Sun Freshman of the Year and earned First Team accolades during the 2013 and 2014 seasons. She also earned the A-Sun Player of the Week award four times in 2015 and holds the league record with 10 career nods.
