FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU head men's tennis coach CJ Weber announced the addition of Naples native Oliver Landert. Landert joins the Eagles following one year at Florida, and will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning this fall.

"Oliver is a fantastic player and will be an incredible addition to our program in singles and doubles," Weber said. "He has a great all-around game, is comfortable coming forward and has a great work ethic on the court. I'm very excited to add a local top talent to the team for the first time. Being from Naples, it will be just another unique way for us to expand on being southwest Florida's team."

Landert (Naples, Fla./Florida Virtual School/Florida) was a five-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net out of high school. He was ranked as high as No. 7 in the state of Florida and No. 39 nationally while compiling a 37-26 record as a junior. He was a finalist in the State Closed Singles competition and was crowned champion of State Closed Doubles.

Landert enrolled at UF in January of 2014 and was awarded a redshirt. In his first full year with the Gators, Landert went 14-10 in singles play and claimed 11 wins in doubles action. Landert clinched the first two matches of the year for the Gators and earned Florida's decisive fourth point in its 4-3 win over No. 4 UCLA. In double action, he rose to No. 43 nationally.

"I chose to transfer to FGCU because I believe that FGCU is the school that has grown the most over the past five years and I want to be a part of a school that has such tremendous potential," Landert said. "When I was being recruited two years ago, Coach Weber had the most interest and belief in my tennis abilities and really showed a lot confidence that FGCU would be a great fit for me. There was not another coach who recruited me that showed as much enthusiasm and confidence in FGCU as Coach Weber. He made me believe that FGCU is the best school in the country and I have come to realize that it is true. I can't wait to see how far the limits are for this school. It's going to mean a lot to me playing in front of my family and friends that will come out and show support for the Eagles. I'm very excited to be here and can't wait to represent FGCU on the tennis court."

Landert was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll in addition to his accomplishments on the court.

He is the lone newcomer on a team that returns seven players from a 2014-15 squad that made it to the NCAA Tournament and claimed the A-Sun title. In addition, Weber was named both the A-Sun's Coach of the Year and the Wilson/ITA Southeast Region Coach of the Year. The fall season begins for FGCU on Sept. 25 with the Bedford Cup.

FGCU is led by CJ Weber has coached 16 A-Sun All-Conference selections since joining the Green and Blue in 2011. In 2014-15, Weber guided the Eagles to their first-ever Atlantic Sun Championship and first-ever Atlantic Sun Regular Season Title after a program-best 17 wins. In his third season, Weber lead Jordi Vives to a No. 35 national ranking, a nation-leading 14-match unbeaten streak and the round of 32 in the 2014 NCAA Tournament – the program's first appearance.
