FORT MYERS, Fla. – Bringing nearly a decade of coaching and playing experience at the Division I level, former All-American Lindsey Ubrun has joined the FGCU softball program as an assistant coach. Ubrun is set to begin her new position in Southwest Florida on July 18.

Ubrun lettered two years at Maryland (2006-2007) and Missouri (2008-2009) before beginning her coaching career at Tennessee-Chattanooga. Following a three-year stint in Tennessee, Ubrun moved to Ames, Iowa to coach at Iowa State (2014-2016). During her six year coaching career, Ubrun helped UT-Chattanooga lead the nation in batting average twice and Iowa State finish in the Top 15.

"I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the FGCU softball program," Ubrun expressed. "I cannot wait to get to work alongside coach David Deiros and coach Erika Bennett and help continue the winning tradition they have instilled at FGCU. "

Ubrun was named Iowa State's assistant coach prior to the 2014 season and was in charge of hitting and infield instruction as well as nationwide recruiting. Her first season in Ames, Iowa was one of the best in Iowa State history as the Cyclones hit .325, good for 11th in the nation and the best season output in program history. In three seasons at Iowa State, Ubrun coached five All-Big XII selections, two All-Freshman Team members and one All-Defensive Team honoree.

"We are extremely fortunate to have someone with Lindsey's caliber of experience join our coaching staff," Deiros said. "She has played softball at the highest level and her competitive spirit will positively impact our team. Her approach to teaching hitting will pay immediate dividends for our offense."

Prior to her arrival in Iowa, Ubrun began her career at UT-Chattanooga. In three seasons overseeing the Mocs offense, UT-Chattanooga led the nation in batting average twice (2011-2012) and posted two wins in the NCAA Tournament, both coming in 2011.

Ubrun was a well-decorated infielder for both Maryland and Missouri, accomplishing the highest honors both athletically and academically. By the time her eligibility was complete, Ubrun found herself in both the Maryland and Missouri record books, and capped her career with an appearance in the Women's College World Series while earning NFCA All-American and CoSIDA Academic All-America honors.

The Riverside, Cali.-native made her mark early in her playing career, hitting a then-Maryland record 11 home runs her freshman season (2006) earning Second Team All-ACC honors. Ubrun would also collect ACC All-Academic awards in both seasons as a Terrapin.

After transferring to Missouri prior to her junior season (2008), Ubrun hit .313 with 16 home runs and 58 RBIs as Missouri advanced to the Super Regionals. As a senior, she hit .356 with 16 more home runs and 56 RBIs to earn All Big-XII honors for the second time. The No. 11 Tigers advanced to the Women's College World Series thanks in part to Ubrun's success at the plate.

Ubrun joins Deiros' staff ahead of the 2016-17 season as FGCU searches for back-to-back Atlantic Sun Regular Season titles. The Eagles won their first outright crown and third overall title in 2016 and return the bulk of a 32-win team.

Ubrun graduated Summa Cum Laude from Missouri in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education.

COACH DEIROS
The founding father of FGCU softball, David Deiros recently completed his 14th season as head coach. Hired in 2001 to build the program from the dirt up, Deiros has since guided the Eagles to 11 seasons with a winning record, eight campaigns with 35 wins and a win percentage of .669 (544-268-3). Deiros is a former head coach at the 1998 Florida State Runner-up Lely High School in Naples and is the founding head coach of the 1999 District Champion/2001 Regional Runner-up Gulf Coast High School in Naples.
