FGCU To Host Dinner On The Diamond Event
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The FGCU Athletic Department will provide the unique combination of fine dining with the total sports experience when it hosts the inaugural Dinner on the Diamond event on Sunday, Dec. 5 on the Swanson Stadium Field.
Highlighted by 2008 Ryder Cup Captain Paul Azinger as the keynote speaker, the dinner will also feature other sports celebrities, including former FGCU greats and current professionals Chris Sale (Chicago White Sox), Casey Coleman (Chicago Cubs) and Derek Lamely (PGA Pro).
The dinner is just the start of the two-day event, as fans also have the opportunity to play a round of golf on Monday, Dec. 6 at Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club with one of the professional sports celebrities of their choice. The dinner on Sunday will begin at 4:45 p.m. with a Cocktail Party attended by the celebrities in the FGCU Outdoor Sports Complex VIP suite that overlooks the baseball field. Entry into the Cocktail Party is only available for those who are taking part in the “Golfing With The Greats.” FGCU President Dr. Wilson G. Bradshaw along with Coleman, Lamely and Sale will provide the opening remarks before dinner begins promptly at 6:30 p.m. Azinger will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the evening.
ESPN 770 AM’s David Moulton will serve as the Master of Ceremonies for the entire event. A silent auction that includes all kinds of sports memorabilia will take place throughout the night and a live auction of three big items will also be conducted.
Other celebrities slated to be at the dinner include PGA professionals Peter Jacobsen, George McNeill and Loren Roberts along with local Major League Baseball stars Chris Johnson (Bishop Verot HS/Houston Astros), Matt LaPorta (Charlotte HS/Cleveland Indians) and Chris Resop (Barron Collier HS/Pittsburgh Pirates).
