FORT MYERS, Fla. – Just under a year on the job as FGCU’s Director of Sports Information, Patrick Pierson will be the featured guest on the newest episode of the FGCU Sports Report produced by WGCU-TV on Friday night at 8:30 p.m.

The first showing on Friday will go off at 8:30 p.m. on WGCU (Ch.3) followed by a 6:30 a.m. showing on ABC7 Saturday morning. A complete list of each week’s show is below.

The FGCU Sports Report, a 30-minute show which showcases all 14 Division I sports at FGCU, will keep the Southwest Florida community apprised of the FGCU Eagles’ action on a weekly basis through mid-May. As a community partnership agreement, Waterman Broadcasting also will be airing the show on ABC7 and NBC’s News Now channel.

Pierson sat down with host Tom James as this week’s exclusive interview to talk about what it’s like managing the coverage of FGCU’s 14 athletic programs. The sports information staff will also be featured, showing a behind the scenes look into how information is disseminated to the public and the media on each program.

The episode also features player profiles on senior softball player Nicole Boswell (Jacksonville, Fla./Bartram Trail) and senior baseball player Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Central). Boswell is a four-year member of the FGCU softball team and implemented the program’s “Hit Pink” event to raise awareness for breast cancer. Alvarez owns the third-best average on the team and recently reached the 300-hit plateau for his career and is just nine hits shy of the FGCU record.

WGCU also headed to the links to do a season wrap-up on the men’s and women’s golf seasons. Led by interim head coach Brent Jensen, the women’s squad fired a 303 to finish in a share of third place at the 2011 Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, led by Fabienne Haremza’s (Wildermen, South Africa/Lamar) second-place finish. The men’s season featured wins at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate and Stetson Invitational in the fall, and eight top 5s out of 11 tournaments. The men finished in a sixth-place tie at the A-Sun Championship and finished the season with a team single-season record 14 under-par rounds and set the single-season scoring average (290.8) mark.

Under Jensen’s watch, sophomore Briana Carlson, senior Dan Mazziotta (Fort Myers, Fla./Cypress Lake) and junior Brandon Pena (Clewiston, Fla./Clewiston) recently earned All-Conference honors, while Matt Cote (Palm Harbor, Fla./Palm Harbor University) was named the A-Sun Freshman of the Year.

The FGCU Sports Report will conclude the 2010-11 athletics season with its final episode on May 13.
