Eagle Revolution Reaches Record Crowd

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Despite it being August, the student section in Alico Arena was in mid-season form on Monday night. Over 2,500 FGCU students filled seats in Alico Arena as the athletic department helped them celebrate the start of the school year with the second annual Eagle Revolution.

With the attendance up over 1,000 students from the inaugural year, the Eagle Revolution is aimed to build student support for FGCU’s 14 Division I athletic programs while promoting campus unity.

The event opened with a hype video produced Parr Media that featured each of FGCU’s head coaches giving FGCU’s student section “The Dirty Birds” a preseason pep talk. Over 400 incoming freshman signed up to be a part of the “Dirty Birds” at orientation, while another 100 students signed up after last night’s event.

Highlighted by baseball coach Dave Tollett’s entrance on a custom made 1951 Cushman Eagle Barrel Spring FGCU scooter, each of FGCU head coaches were introduced to the students. The scooter, which was donated by Self Insured Plans, LLC, will be auctioned off at the President’s Ball in March. Tollett, women’s basketball head coach Karl Smesko, men’s basketball coach Andy Enfield and softball Dave Deiros all spoke to the students, talking about how much of a home field/court advantage they can give Southwest Florida.

The event included music from South Florida’s Sekond Nature, while students names were drawn for a 37’’ LCD TV, iPad, Dell laptop computer, Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and bookstore money. Students must be present to win the prizes.
