FGCU Student-Athletes Volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House
FORT MYERS, Fla. - On December 6, 2011, ten members of the Eagles Council volunteered at the Fort Myers Ronald McDonald House and helped by painting and cleaning the house.
The Eagles Council is the FGCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee made up of two student-athletes from each of the 14 intercollegiate teams that FGCU sponsors. The mission of the FGCU Eagles Council is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity and communication between the student-athletes and athletics administration, protecting student-athlete welfare, and fostering a positive student-athlete image on campus and in the Fort Myers and surrounding community.
The Ronald McDonald House Charities is the designated charity for the Eagles Council this year. Some Eagles Council members painted the doors, others cleaned their spacious kitchen, while a few did windows, and others thoroughly mopped the floors.
Teri Lytle (Melbourne, Fla./Melbourne Central Catholic), Eagles Council President, was very encouraged about helping with the project. Lytle said, “The Ronald McDonald House does a great job helping those in their time of need. Eagles Council is happy to work with this special organization as a way to show appreciation for the community that has given the FGCU athletic program so much support.”
The Ronald McDonald House mission is to create, find, and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children.
