FGCUAthletics.com Sees Significant Growth in Traffic in 2011-12

FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCUAthletics.com, the official website of FGCU Athletics, saw an 11.78 percent increase in its website traffic for the 2011-12 school year as compared to the previous 12 months. The website also saw a 44.72 percent increase as compared to the previous 24 months.

FGCUAthletics.com, topped 3,000,000 pageviews for the second consecutive year by registering a program-record 3,219,529 views from Jul. 1, 2011 to Jun. 30, 2012, a 6.7 percent increase from the previous year and a 14.31 percent increase from a couple years ago.

The website also pulled in 332,587 unique visitors from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012, up from 297,541 during the previous year and 229,810 from two years ago.

FGCUAthletics.com had more than 50,000 unique visitors nine times during the year, including a high of 90,650 in March. The Eagles had 78,365 unique visitors in November, which represented a 31.98% increase over November 2011 (59,376).

To understand this growth, a quick overview of the terminology is needed. 'Pageviews' have become the more common metric for determining the reach of a website. A pageview is logged each time a visitor views a specific page on a website. One user can rack up many pageviews on a site during any one session.

A unique visitor is defined as someone with a unique IP address who enters or reenters a site each month. A visitor who returns during that month is only counted once.

A major reason for the increased web traffic is because of the impressive amount of success the program achieved last season. The 2011-12 school year saw the Eagles become officially approved for active Division I membership, win four A-Sun regular season titles and capture five conference tournament crowns.

The launch of the newly redesigned FGCUAthletics.com (Aug. 12, 2011) also contributed to the increase in website traffic. The revised and updated site continued the partnership between FGCU and Streamline Technologies and was a four-month collaborative process and was headed by Assistant AD for Media Relations Patrick Pierson, Assistant Sports Information Director Mike Hill and Streamline Technologies.
