FORT MYERS, Fla. – On Friday, FGCU head baseball coach Dave Tollett announced the addition of former Creighton assistant Jon Moore to the coaching staff for the 2012-13 season.

“We are happy to have Jon join our coaching staff this upcoming season,” said Tollett. “Based on his playing career and his coaching experience, we are confident that he will be a great addition to our team.”

In his role as a volunteer assistant, Moore will be working primarily with outfielders and assisting with the offense. Additionally, Moore will be coaching first base on game days and will be in charge of coordinating winter and summer camps.

Prior to joining the Eagles, Moore worked as a volunteer assistant for one season at Creighton, working with outfielders and assisting with hitting, while also coaching first base on game days. Last season, the Blue Jays won The Missouri Valley tournament and advanced to the NCAA Regional Final at UCLA.

Moore transitioned to Creighton after two years at Lewis University, where he worked with hitters, outfielders and base runners, while also dealing with recruiting. Moore coached six All-Great Lakes Valley Conference players and two All-Midwest Region Second-Team outfielders in his time at Lewis.

Prior to his coaching stint at Lewis, Moore played collegiately at Purdue University, where he earned Academic All-Big Ten accolades in 2008 after starting 56 games for the Boilermakers and hitting .321 with 31 RBI and 12 doubles. He was named to the All-Big Ten Tournament Team that year, going 6-for-13 with five RBI, four runs scored, a double and a home run in the postseason. On March 24, 2008, he took home Big Ten Player of the Week honors. As a sophomore in 2007, Moore started 52 games and hit .275. In 2009, Moore hit .328 with nine RBI and three doubles before missing the final 33 games of the season due to a knee injury.

He was an Endowment Scholarship recipient from the John Purdue Club in 2009. Moore worked camps for the baseball program each year at Purdue. He earned a degree in sociology and a minor in child development and family services at Purdue in 2010.

Moore played one season at Oakton Community College in 2006. He was named First Team All NJCAA Region IV and First Team All-Skyway Collegiate Conference.
