FORT MYERS, Fla. - The FGCU volleyball team heads to Toledo, Ohio to participate in the Rocket Classic this weekend. Six matches will be played, three of which will feature the Eagles. On Friday, FGCU (4-3 overall) will take on Illinois State (3-3 overall) at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the Green and Blue face Memphis (1-6 overall) at 10 a.m. ET and wrap things up with host Toledo (2-4 overall) at 7:30 p.m. ET

FGCU heads into the Toledo tournament after picking up wins over George Washington and Bethune-Cookman and losing to UMKC and Wyoming at the Cowgirl Classic last weekend. The Eagles have six players that have registered between 20 and 55 kills so far this season, led by junior Christine Pinder’s (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS/Houston/Central Florida CC) team-leading 55. Sophomore Whitney Masters (Muncie, Ind./Wapahani HS) leads the team with 67 digs (2.79/set). The setting duo of sophomore Gigi Meyer (Gainesville, Fla./Buchholz HS) and junior Courtney Greenberg (Fort Myers, Fla./Fort Myers HS/Juniata College) has run the FGCU offense, averaging 4.88 assists and 3.54 assists per set, respectively.

FGCU’s match vs. Toledo will be broadcast live on the web for a minimal fee through Rocket Vision and live stats will be available for all matches on UTRockets.com.

The Redbirds have lost back-to-back matches after starting 3-2. Illinois State dropped a five-set match to Oregon State last weekend before falling 3-1 to Valpo. The Illinois State defense has been solid this season, only allowing opponents to hit .158 against them. Jenny Menendez anchors this defense with 139 digs (5.17 per set), while LeighAnn Hranka has recorded 32 blocks (seven solo) this year. Shannon McGlaughlin and Ashley Rosch lead the offense with 64 and 60 kills, respectively.

The Tigers picked up their first win last Saturday with a 3-0 sweep of North Florida. Senior OH Altrese Hawkins leads Memphis with 4.38 kills per set and ranks second with 2.92 digs per set. Sophomore OH Lauren Hawkins owns a team-high .239 attack percentage, while junior MB Katie Meyer has a team-best 0.88 blocks per set.

Toledo started the 2012 season with a 3-2 win over Houston before dropping four straight matches. The Rockets topped Eastern Illinois 3-2 their last time out to improve their record to 2-4. Toledo’s offense has been led by Becca Reidy and Dakota Harkins, who have recorded 56 and 50 kills, respectively. Lauren Rafdal and Jordan Kielty are not far behind with 46 and 45 kills, respectively. The quartet has accounted for 81.7 percent of the Rockets kills (197 of 241 kills). Harkins also leads the team with 21 blocks while McCall Paynter anchors the defense with 73 digs.
