FORT MYERS, Fla. – FGCU women’s soccer freshman goalkeeper Brittany Brown (Rochester, N.Y./Greece Athena HS) earned the Atlantic Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week accolade on Monday following the team’s undefeated opening weekend of league play.

This is the second time in the last three weeks Brown has received the award. Since becoming the starter in game three, Brown has helped FGCU go 6-1-2 over its last nine games.

Brown made three saves and recorded her third shutout in the 2-0 victory over USC Upstate on Friday night. Then against ETSU on Sunday, she made five saves and allowed only one goal in a 2-1 win.

Brown improved to 6-1-2 on the season and lowered her goals-against average (GAA) to 0.80, which is second-best in the A-Sun. She leads the A-Sun in shutouts (3), ranks second in save percentage (.849) and is third in total saves (45).

FGCU was one of three teams to escape this opening weekend of conference play with six points. Since joining the A-Sun in 2007, the Eagles lead the A-Sun in conference wins (35), fewest conference losses (9) and most conference ties (8). In their last 23 A-Sun games, FGCU sports a 19-1-3 record with a 56-4 goal differential.

The Eagles went 2-0 last week in A-Sun play and currently hold a 7-2-2 record. FGCU sits at No. 49 in the latest TopDrawerSoccer.com Tournament 64 projection released on Monday.

Coming off a six-game road swing, the Eagles will return home next Friday, September 28, when they host Lipscomb (2-6-2, 0-2) at the FGCU Soccer Complex at 7 p.m.
